What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb, grows in other places1. It causes debilitating pain and can significantly impact day-to-day life.
Endometriosis can affect women of any ages2
1 in 10 women, are diagnosed with endometriosis3
What may cause Endometriosis?
The exact cause is unknown, however, there are several theories, including :
Genetics
An issue with the Immune system
Endometrium cells spread through the bloodstream or lymphatic system.
It has been said that endometriosis is caused by a combination of factors.
Pelvic pain increased on period
Extreme pain where the tissue has deposited, for example the spine
Dysmenorrhoea, extreme Period cramps
Dyspareunia, Pain during or after sex
Nausea
Menorrhagia, Heavy periods
Start of period is said to be the most extreme pain, for others the pain can continue throughout the whole period.
