What is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)?
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a poorly understood condition where a person experiences persistent, severe, and debilitating pain1.
The pain usually only affects 1 limb, however, it can spread to other parts of the body.
The skin of the affected body part can become so sensitive, it can cause intense pain.
CRPS often gradually improves over time. However, patients can experience this pain for many years.
What may cause CRPS?
Although most cases of CRPS are triggered by an injury, some cases have no cause (idiopathic)2.
Chronic debilitating pain - burning, stabbing, stinging, tingling, and numbness.
Affected areas can become swollen and stiff
Hyperalgesia, feeling more pain than usual to something that is painful
Allodynia, feeling pain from something that usually does not cause pain. (eg- touch/pressure to skin)
Tremors and muscle spasms (Dystonia)
Ulcers
Muscle Atrophy
Touch
Movement
Temperature
