What is Bursitis?
Bursitis is a painful swelling of the bursa1. The bursa is a small fluid-filled sac that cushions around bones, tissue, and joints. It usually affects the shoulders, elbows, knees, and feet.
It is usually acute, lasting a few weeks. However repeated episodes can lead to chronic pain in the joints.
What may cause Bursitis?
The cause of Bursitis is usually repetitive motion and strain on the joint. Infection can also cause bursitis, however, that is less common.
Pain, especially when moving
Limited range of movement
Edema, Swelling
If it is linked to infection, other symptoms include:
Erythema, redness of the skin
Pyrexia, High temperature
Rigors, chills
The Main trigger for pain is movement and stress on the joint, such as weight-bearing.
