What is Crohn's Disease?
Crohn's disease is a chronic condition, where the Gastrointestinal system becomes inflamed1. It is classed under inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
Research has shown that 0.81% of the population is affected by Crohn's or colitis2.
20% to 30% of cases present before the age of 203.
It occurs in men and women at approximately equal rates4.
What may cause Crohn's Disease?
The exact cause is unknown, however, there are many factors that play a role :
Genetics
A concern with the immune system
Smoking
Previous gastroenteritis
Abnormal balance of gut bacteria
Diarrhoea
Stomach pains and cramps
Melena, Blood in feaces
Fatigue
Weight loss
Pyrexia, High temperature
Nausea
Joint pains
Sore, red eyes
