What is Avascular Necrosis?
Avascular Necrosis is a disease that is caused by temporary/permanent loss of the blood supply to the bone. The lack of blood supply leads to bone tissue death and the bone collapses1.
This commonly happens to long bones and near a joint.
Anyone can be affected but is common in people between the ages of 30 and 502.
Men are affected more than women3.
What may cause Avascular Necrosis?
Avascular Necrosis can be the result of:
Injury and Fractures
Damage to blood vessels
Long-term use of medication
Excessive alcohol use
Joint Pain
Bone and Joints begin to Collapse
Limited range of movement
Pain when weight-bearing and lying down.
Pain may center on the hip, shoulder, knee, hand, or foot
